Outdoor Emergency First Aid (Level 3)
Who is this for?
Anyone who works or takes part in outdoor activities where help is usually not far away, such as outdoor instructors, activity leaders, countryside staff, rangers, guides, forest school staff and people who regularly walk, cycle or work in parks and estates. Ideal where you need solid outdoor first aid skills for single-day or accessible locations.
Description
A practical 1-day Level 3 course providing the essential skills to manage life-threatening emergencies in outdoor environments. Learners focus on the first few critical minutes of an incident: assessing the scene, giving effective basic life support and controlling serious injuries until professional help arrives. The course is tailored to outdoor settings, with realistic scenarios that reflect the challenges of weather, terrain and limited equipment.
What you'll learn
- Scene safety, summoning assistance and primary casualty assessment in outdoor settings.
- Adult CPR and safe use of an AED.
- Managing an unresponsive casualty, including airway management and recovery position.
- Dealing with choking, serious bleeding and shock.
- Basic management of common outdoor injuries and medical emergencies (e.g. fractures, burns, hypothermia/heat illness, heart attack, asthma, anaphylaxis, seizures).
Course Duration
1 day (typically 6 guided learning hours), scheduled to suit your shift patterns and operational needs.
Certification
Ofqual-regulated FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency Outdoor First Aid / Outdoor Emergency First Aid (RQF), valid for 3 years and suitable for many single-day or non-remote outdoor roles.
